Then think a third time, because it is by far the worst decision you can make with your home! Having torn out over 1000 bathrooms we can’t tell you how many times a tub or shower area looked sound on the surface, only to find under the surface there was mold, water damage, compromised insulation, rotted wood, and insect damage. Not to mention out dated plumbing and substrates that no longer meet code.
It truly amazes me that companies actually advertises “We’ll put a new bathroom right over your old bathroom”, like it’s a good thing. A 20 or 30 year old bathroom is at the end of its life span, and considering an experienced remodeling crew can tear out an old bathroom to the studs in a matter of a few hours, it makes no sense what so ever to leave the old bathroom to rot under a cover up system.
